Open Letter to the Birthmom Community
Dear Birthmom Community,
We see you. We know the weight you carry and the love that lives in your story. Whether you are freshly navigating life after placement or have walked this path for decades, you are not alone — and you never have to be.
It’s with deep love, shared experience, and a vision for something better that we announce the creation of Birthmoms Empowered — a new nonprofit run for birthmoms, by birthmoms. Our mission is simple yet powerful: empowering birthmoms through restorative retreats and authentic connections.
This isn’t just another organization. This is a movement rooted in sisterhood. We are birthmoms who understand what it feels like to walk into a room and wonder if anyone else knows the complex mix of love, loss, and strength we carry. We’re building a space where you’ll never have to wonder that again.
At the heart of Birthmoms Empowered are three commitments:
Therapeutic Retreats – There is magic in gathering together in a shared space. Late night conversations, early morning connections over coffee, and the bonding power of laughter and tears as we share our common experiences.
Connection Across the Country – Many incredible birthmom support groups already exist, but too often we work in silos. Our hope is to connect those groups and build a unified network so that no birthmom ever feels isolated or unseen.
Peer Support – We’re creating an online space where birthmoms can connect, share, listen, and grow together.
Combined, we have decades of experience supporting birthmoms, building community, and creating therapeutic retreats for birthmoms. Over time, our shared vision evolved, leading us to create a space that operates fully independent from adoption agencies — one centered entirely on the voices, needs, and healing of birthmothers.
We also want to acknowledge that we are no longer affiliated with On Your Feet Foundation. We are grateful for the experiences and relationships we built there and for the many lives touched through that work. Birthmoms Empowered represents the next step in our journey — one that allows us to serve the community with full independence, integrity, and alignment with our values.
There is room for many voices, many paths, and many ways to heal — and we believe that together, we can make the birthmom community stronger than ever.
